Universidade do Minho, Braga & Guimarães, Portugal, 25th – 27th of June, 2012

The European Society for Aesthetics would like to invite you to attend the ESA Conference 2012. The conference is co-organised by the ESA and the Philosophy Department and the School of Architecture at the Universidade do Minho and will take place in Braga and Guimarães from the 25th of June (morning) until the 27th of June (evening) 2012.

Keynote speakers:

Conference Programme

The conference will host more than 60 papers from all traditions and on a variety of systematic and historical topics in philosophical aesthetics. You can now download and view the provisional programme.

The ESA will also hold its general assembly and elections 2012 during the conference.

Conference Venues

The conference’s main venue will be the School of Architecture of the University of Minho, which is located in the Azurém Campus in Guimarães.

The second day of the conference will be held at the Nogueira da Silva Museum, which is located in the city of Braga.

Maps with the exact location of the conference rooms will be provided closer to the date of the conference.

Accommodation

We advise people to stay in Guimarães during the conference. There are regular shuttle busses that connect Guimarães and the Azurém Campus to the city of Braga (the distance is about 10 kilometres), and we will organise the transport from and to Guimarães for the sessions and events taking place in Braga.

There are several hotels in Guimarães (all within walking distance from the Azurém Campus) that are affiliated with the ESA conference and offer a special rate for participants at the conference.

You can find a list of the hotels and instructions concerning how to book rooms at the special rate here.

Please note that neither the ESA, nor the local organisors will be able to book rooms for you – you will have to contact the hotels directly.

Travel Information

The best way to get to Guimarães is to fly to the airport of Porto, then take the Metro to the Campanhã railway station and finally take the train to Guimarães. If you are coming from Lisbon, you will have to change trains in Porto.

There are numerous train connections between Porto and Guimarães, which you can check here. Further information about how to get to Guimarães and additional links to bus and train websites can be found here.

For more on the city of Braga and how to get there, please consult this site.

Registration for the conference is now open until the 18th of June. Please note that there will be no possibility of late registration.

To register, please follow these two steps:

Saint John’s Day in Braga

The Sunday before the conference is Saint John’s Day, which is famously celebrated in the near-by town of Braga from Saturday night onwards.

It is definitely worth considering coming one or two days early to experience the celebrations. You can find more information here and here.
